Access Control Upgrade at Ysgol Gelli Aur/Golden Grove School

Client: Pembrokeshire County Council

Project: Access Control Upgrade

Date: Summer 2024

Project Overview

As part of our relationship with Pembrokeshire County Council, we were called to Ysgol Gelli Aur/Golden Grove School to upgrade their access control systems over the summer holiday. This project modernized the system within the school to be up to date with modern standards.

The upgrade was implemented at both the main entrance of the school and the entrance to the playground, utilizing a Paxton Switch 2 Access Control Reader connected to a state-of-the-art Videx Video Entry Intercom System located at the school entrance. This replaced an outdated audio intercom system. A similar system was also installed in the proposed office leading to the playground.

As part of the security enhancement in the project, the corridor door to the playground and corridor access to the main office were both equipped with Paxton Switch 2 readers installed on both sides of the corridor to enhance security.

A key highlight of this security upgrade was the replacement of the existing mortise release on the main door with a magnetic lock, while the green break glass and push-to-exit button were retained and connected to the new intercom system, ensuring seamless integration.

Our in-house electrician provided mains power from a suitable location and worked with the fire and security engineers to ensure the necessary certifications were in place, guaranteeing a safe and reliable installation.

As Martyn’s Law continues to be discussed and with the upcoming legislation that will require all venues and local authorities to draw up preventative plans for terrorism, local authorities and venue management companies need to look at enhancing their access controls to be in line with modern standards and the upcoming legislation.
